Meaghan King has been a Special Education teacher at Slater Middle School since 2012. She is the department head of Santa Rosa City School Moderate-Severe Special Education Program. Meaghan received the Santa Rosa Chamber of Commerce Teacher of the Year award in 2014 and was the California League of Middle Schools Teacher of the Year regional runner up in 2019. Meaghan teaches credential candidates with the North Coast School of Education. She holds two Special Education credentials from Sonoma State University: one specializing in students with mild to moderate disabilities and one specializing in students with moderate to severe disabilities. While completing her degree she served with AmeriCorps CalSERVES for two years as an After School Team Leader at R.L. Stevens Elementary School. Mrs. King also spent time working with students with special needs in Africa during the summer of 2016.

Therapy Dog

During her time at Canine Companions (she really has never left), Mrs. King puppy raised her current Therapy Dog Merika, a 10 year old yellow lab. Merika is certified by the non-profit 4Paws as a licensed therapy dog. She carries insurance coverage from CALNon-Profits Insurance. She is an intricate part of the positive classroom environment Mrs. King strives to create.


Service Dog - Canine Companions for Independence

Thel is 6 year old a service dog from Canine Companions for Independence. We are truly lucky to have such a wonderful addition to our class. She fully trained and licensed to work with students with disabilities. Canine Companions facility dogs are trustworthy in professional environments and can perform over 40 commands designed to motivate and inspire clients with special needs. Teddy & Gracie

Mr. Sanders' has Therapy Dogs too!



Teddy and Gracie are purebred Bernese Mountain Dogs. Teddy is 3 years old and Gracie just turned 1. Teddy is a Certified Therapy Dog and Gracie is a Puppy in Training. Both are big goofy loves who enjoy a good tummy rub.

Biggie & Smalls

The Guinea Pigs!

Biggie & Smalls were rescued from the Sonoma County Humane Society. They were left one day at Memorial Hospital ER. They are exceptional little guys who love carrots, jumping and saying hi to kids.
